Artist and producer, Antlive, talks about his new projects – His “Kenny Powers” album is coming out on SLAMjamz on May 6 and he’s working on music for the upcoming album for Basketball Hall of Fame legend, Spencer Haywood. Can’t wait to hear them, Ant.
The SPITslam Group (Kate G): Ant, there has been talk over social media that you have a new project coming out, “Kenny Powers.” Tell us about that project and what we can expect.
Antlive: I have a new producer album, “La Flama Blanca,” coming from my artist and alter ego, Kenny Powers, composed by me, Antlive, to be released May 6 via SLAMjamz, Boombapkings.com, the day before we play Denver City Hall with Public Enemy & Chuck D. Kenny Powers is an asshole but a hell of an artist. He speaks his mind, never mincing words to be liked or appreciated. I would have to say that Kenny Powers is a legend in his own mind and that makes him tangible and interesting to the world. When you have the mind of a scientist and can speak 5 different languages fluently, including the ancient Chinese language Mandarin, I'd have to say Kenny is better than everyone else in the world! People try to say Kenny is a racist, bigot and a hater but I'm here to set the record straight and tell you he's not. Most people don't' have the intellect to understand how a genius works except for a few of us in life! Kenny Powers is so great that the world can't wait to get a piece of his shit! When you’ve got a jump shot like Curry, have an arm like the Rocket, a voice like Chuck D's, and a Master Plan equivalent to Obama’s, then the only thing left is to bow to your God. “La Flama Blanca” is about no stone being unturned, anybody who has ever wronged Kenny Powers or has not paid their proper respect to a legend will fear the wrath!
The SPITslam Group: Your newest project is coming up with a song for the new Spencer Haywood soundtrack, “Full Court.” (For those who don’t know, Spencer Haywood is a Hall of Fame basketball player who was responsible for changing the eligibility rules for the NBA.) Tell us about this project and what you are doing with it.
Antlive: As a producer, opportunities don't come often, so when asked by Chuck to produce and write for the Spencer Haywood movie, I was ecstatic. Being from Detroit, I know the legend of Spencer Haywood. He helped revolutionize how young athletes were able to make that jump from high school to the pros. Being a former high school and college basketball player during the 80's and 90's, I grew up with legendary pro athletes like Derrick Coleman, Steve Smith, Chris Webber and Jalen Rose. I can appreciate the work ethic but I know that someone had to pave the way so I'm honored to be a part of this. I have three songs with Chuck on this project, “Give Me The Ball,” “Haywood U Let the Man In”, and “Hands of Haywood” and I've produced 2 of the 3 which will be classics. “Give Me The Ball,” will also drop as a video and I will be shooting most of it in Denver on the 7th.
The SPITslam Group: Next month you are going to be opening up for PE in Denver, how did that come about.
Antlive: After rocking San Antonio with Public Enemy, I was given another opportunity to open up for my idol in Denver. The gravity of Chuck’s influence to me as a man and artist is beyond understanding. I have known Chuck D since I was 17 and a lot of my ideas came from him. He's a legend who needs no help and has graced the stage for decades with Flavor and made nothing but classic music for the world to consume. By the way, he's invited me for the upcoming tour.
The SPITslam Group: Anything else you want to add?
Antlive: My mission is not to only make boombapking.com a relevant name but to help work with SLAMZ as a major player in music as a producer, artist and someday an executive for Slamz. You have to be hungry and work hard & I think Chuck D see's that effort. Some people will never know what it's like to work with your idol, which I have no insecurity in saying because I'm loyal & remember how and what it took to get to this point.
