PE Bandleader Khari Wynn Ready for 2020
Memphis born guitarist and recording artist Khari Wynn has been steadily adding his riveting riffs to the musical conversation for almost two decades. From as early as 2001, recording with Professor Griff’s group 7th Octave, to writing and recording guitar tracks for Public Enemy landmarks Revolverlution, New Whirl Odor, and How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul?
After honing his live performance chops touring alongside Stax recording artist, Shirley Brown to in 2007-8, being a featured guitarist on the James Brown Tribute alongside music legends Bootsy Collins and Clyde Stubblefield. By 2011, he eventually took on the role of Music Director for Public Enemy after a decade with the group.
His latest endeavors include a recent commission to compose a piece of music based off one of the public art installation sculptures which resulting in the performance, Solar System in Peabody with Frog Squad. Wynn has also released a new recording with his all-instrumental, experimental group called The New Saturn Collective, with the album, Infinite Pursuit - The New Saturn Collective. (CD Baby).
Other pending projects for 2020 include a remix with Chuck D alongside two young producer/DJs, the Galactic Cosmonauts—all while undertaking a three-month Artist in Residence with Memphis’ Crosstown Arts Organization. Flying high on new projects and resources to expand his craft; whether composing or performing, Wynn’s music continues to add something powerful wherever it lands.
